Porsche will run a factory GTE team at Le Mans next season, in its first such programme since it won outright in 1998.
Two of the new generation 'Type 991' 911s will be fielded by Porsche AG Team Manthey in both the World Endurance Championship and at Le Mans.
Olaf Manthey's squad has mostly recently run Porsches in International GT Open and has won the Nurburgring 24 Hours with Porsche five times.
Porsche motorsport chief Hartmut Kristen said: "The new 911 RSR is currently being developed by our engineers and tested by our works drivers.
"What better time could there be to introduce the new car than in the 50th anniversary year of the Porsche 911?"
The manufacturer recently announced that it was ending development on the previous generation 911, which had been campaigned by Flying Lizard in the American Le Mans Series and Felbermayr-Proton in the WEC.
