The Super Aguri name is set to make a surprise return to international motorsport in the new Formula E Championship from 2014.
Aguri Suzuki's operation, which ran in Formula 1 from 2006-8, was announced as one of the 10 Formula E entrants in Tokyo on Friday morning.
The squad will be known as Super Aguri Formula E, or SAFE.
AUTOSPORT gets the inside line on Super Aguri's comeback
Executive chairman Suzuki will be joined by ex-Super Aguri technical chiefs Peter McCool and Mark Preston.
"When the FIA Formula E project was announced we were instantly attracted to it and started to put some plans in place," McCool told AUTOSPORT.
"We met with Alejandro Agag and his team earlier this year and fully informed him of our intentions and objectives for the SAFE project, presenting our vision for a Formula E team that represents Japan and Asia.
"Once Aguri came on board over the summer the final major part of the jigsaw was in place and now we are looking ahead to the inaugural season of the FIA Formula E Championship."
Since his F1 team was disbanded in mid-2008, Suzuki has continued to run a Super GT programme in Japan under the Team Aguri banner.
